GUMMOSIS? UTAH TREE DOCTOR CAN HELP

What Is The Cause Of My Tree's Illness?

A non specific condition where sap leaks from a wounded tree.

What To Watch for If Your Tree Has Gummosis

Gummosis usually occurs when the tree has a perennial or bacterial canker, or is attacked by the peach tree borer. However, gummosis can also be caused by any wound to a stone fruit tree, including winter damage, disease damage, or even damage from a gardening tool. If you see gummy sap leaking out of your peach, plum, cherry or apricot tree, it’s a safe bet that it’s gummosis.

How A Basic Diagnoses Is Made

An early symptom of gummosis is sap oozing from small cracks in the infected bark, giving the tree a bleeding appearance. The gumming may be washed off during heavy rain. The bark stays firm, dries, and eventually cracks and sloughs off.
